Venus Flytrap ‘Big Mouth’

‘Big Mouth’ is a striking cultivar of Dionaea muscipula, selected for its large, chunky traps with broad jaws and strong teeth. The traps sit on relatively short, sturdy leaves, giving the plant a compact appearance while making the traps look particularly impressive.

In good light, the inside of the traps develops a rich red colour, contrasting beautifully with the green outer growth. During the main growing season, mature plants can produce some exceptionally substantial traps.

It is grown in exactly the same way as other Venus flytraps: full sun, rainwater or distilled water, nutrient-poor carnivorous plant compost, and a cool winter dormancy. It is hardy enough to be grown outdoors in a suitable UK bog garden, although plants in small pots are better protected from prolonged hard freezing.

A great choice for beginners and collectors looking for a robust Venus flytrap with particularly large, impressive traps.
