BE4087 Nepenthes veitchii ‘intermediate’ – assorted clones
-
DESCRIPTION
We believe this to be the first ever artificially bred highland-lowland Nepenthes veitchii and so we class it as ‘intermediate’, since it grows easily and in a much wider range of temperatures than either the highland or lowland forms.
This classic species has a spectacular wide peristome. There are both lowland and highland varieties, which are often markedly different in appearance. In general, the highland varieties have wider more colourful pitcher peristomes but all are hairy and charismatic.First introduced March 2019 through Borneo Exotics wholesale auctions under BE-4051 as seed-grown plants, the last of which were auctioned in May 2021. In Nov 2021 this item was introduced from the same grex of seeds, but as assorted clones out of microprop. The female parent is the Bario form of N. veitchii, which is a highland variety and this particular parent has a green pitcher body with rust red peristome. The male parent is the Sungai Samba form of the species, which is a lowland variety and this particular parent also has a green pitcher body with rust red peristome.
This is the first time Borneo Exotics have crossed a highland form of N. veitchii with a lowland form. They are created this item because they are expect these plants to be more temperature tolerant then either parent forms and therefore have classified it as ‘intermediate’.
