BE4026 N. sibuyanensis x merrilliana – best selected clones

This amazingly outstanding cross is one of the most impressive hybrids ever made. The pitchers have the waxy texture of N. sibuyanensis with the sheer size of N. merrilliana and can grow to be quite enormous. All the clones have pitchers that are either a deep orange or red and have huge volume. It’s also vigorous, robust and an easy grower. Simply a stunning plant all round, This cross is believed to be a strong contender for the largest carnivorous plant in the world by volume and has pitchers measured to hold a volume of 3.2L, but larger pitchers are expected to be possible.

Being in a highland-lowland cross, we classify it as an intermediate grower, so it’s therefore quite temperature tolerant.

First introduced Aug 2020 

The female parent is N. sibuyanensis, selected for its orange colouration from the assorted clones sold under BE-3164 and the male parent is the huge Mt. Legaspi form of Nepenthes merrilliana, selected from amongst the assorted clones sold under BE-3117. This cross is exceedingly robust and grows enormous globose pitchers, which immediately draw the eye of any visitor to our nurseries. The pitchers are hard and have the waxy texture of the female parent.

The two clones that make up this item were selected for deepest red coloration from the same grex of seeds that make up the assorted clones which are sold under BE-3542. Unlike the clones that make up BE-3542, which can be somewhat variable, the form and coloration of the two clones in this item are nearly identical in appearance, which is the reason we decided to mix them and not market them individually. Being an intermediate grower, this cross also tolerant of a wide range of temperatures.

Climate:  Intermediate. It will flourish in a wide variety of temperatures and we have tested it between 32 deg. C (90 deg. F) and 12 deg. C (54 deg. F), although it may also tolerate temperatures outside this range.
